THE SECOND APPALACHIAN GROWERS’ FAIR will be Saturday, April 18, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Dillsboro’s Monteith Park. Farmers, growers, performers and crafters of items that are farm- or garden-related are encouraged to participate in this celebration of Appalachia agriculture. The festival is a joint effort between the Monteith Farmstead Restoration Committee and the Dillsboro Merchants Association and is a fund-raiser for the Appalachian Women’s Museum, which will be housed in the restored 16-acre farmstead at the park. This year’s fair will honor Edith Vanderbilt, who became the first woman president of the N.C. State Fair and Agricultural Society in 1920. As a special tribute to Edith Vanderbilt, Jean Sexton, a marketing communication manager with the Biltmore Estate, will be on hand to give a brief program. The day will include performances from regional musicians and arts and crafts demonstrations. Three categories of vendors crafts, nursery and food may participate.
