We offer strictly native dirt at the dig pile, plus enriched buckets and all the best help, so you can start finding gems right away! In our Gift Shop we carry a wide variety of snacks and drinks to keep you going. We also have a wide range of rough specimens from all over the world as well as from our "back yard" which is literally our mountain where the mine site is located. Many different types of gold and silver mountings and jewelry already manufactured from our jewelry bench. So stop on by. We'll be happy to see you!

All weather fun, rain or shine, gem mining for people of all ages. Store hours are 10 - 4 everyday. Handicapped accessible. Sit in covered comfort and mine for your treasures. Featuring native & enriched gemstones. All equipment is supplied and we offer friendly assistance for the inexperienced. Located on HWY 64E/23S in Macon County, North Carolina in waterfall country 1/3 mile above the breathtaking Cullasaja Falls on Hwy. 28 & US 64 halfway between Franklin and Highlands, NC on one of the most scenic byways in the USA. HERITAGE CENTER AND SHOP
A visit to the Scottish Tartans Museum and Heritage Center, Inc. is a stroll through the history and culture of Scotland. Dr. Gordon Teall, Baron of Huntly, and the founder of the Scottish Tartan Society, founded the museum in 1988. This one-of-a-kind museum is the only one in the U.S. We are located here because there are more people pf Celtic heritage in North Carolina than anywhere else in the nation. Our museum will starts with a 5000 year old Neolithic village; acquaint you with some of the personages in Scottish history; shows the development of Scottish dress to the present day kilt; Scottish armament; the Scot-Cherokee connection; and exhibit of over 600 tartans & more..
Producing great finds in Macon County for over 20 years. We are located on Hwy. 441 North just outside of Franklin, North Carolina. Enjoy 150ft of covered flumes, so you can mine rain or shine. Mining instruction on premises, for your mining pleasure. Find anything from Ruby, Sapphire, Emeralds, Amethyst, Garnet, Topaz, Smokey and Rose Quartz and more. Native Buckets are available along with enriched buckets. We also carry International Buckets, with stones from all around the world. Group rates are available.
Sheffield Mine is one of the oldest Ruby Mines still in operation in the Cowee Valley. Once owned by Tiffany's, it has been available to the public for over 60 years! "There's still Rubies in them thar hills! " Honkers are found on a regular basis and smaller rubies and sapphires are immensely numerous! What makes this mine so special are its Star Rubies and Sapphires. This particular type of Ruby is only found right here in the hills of Cowee Valley and one other place ... Burma, India. A cut and polished Sheffield Ruby will often STAR and it is not only beautiful, but it's truly distinctive. Come by and visit!
IN THE HISTORIC 1850 JAIL
Located in the Old Jail, we have 8 rooms filled with gems and mineral from all over the world! In fact, we have one of the largest collections in the Southeast! And don't forget about our gift shop! Guests are always welcome at our meetings with programs having to do with gems, minerals, rock collecting or jewelry making.
13 acres of aquatic ponds are the home to many varieties of water lilies and lotuses that begin blooming in May and continue blooming into August. Perry's Water Gardens are said to be the largest commercial aquatic nursery in the US and are a must see for the photo opportunist. Water Lilies and Lotuses are also available for purchase. We welcome you to visit us in Cowee Valley, and welcome any questions you may have concerning water gardening.

Raising alpacas in the green pastures, under a beautiful blue sky, on a sunny day in beautiful Western North Carolina is really an “affair of the heart”. Operated by Carol and George, whose backgrounds are in teaching and animal husbandry, Skyvue Ranch is a great place to bring the kids (of all ages) to learn about animals that have so much to offer our world. Our purpose is to bring together people interested in history; to discover and collect any object or material that may help establish or illustrate the history of the area; to provide the preservation of historical objects and other materials; and to undertake the preservation of historic building, monuments, and markers. ARTS & HERITAGE CENTER
Built in 1943 on the site of a Civilian Conservation Corps camp, the Cowee School served thousands of students until it was closed as a school in 2012. Efforts are now underway to preserve and reuse the historic school as a community and heritage center. Offers classes, Folk Festival, summer concert series, community theater, speakers, historical conferences and so much more!
