In our Gift Shop we carry a wide variety of snacks and drinks to keep you going. We also have a wide range of rough specimens from all over the world as well as from our "back yard" which is literally our mountain where the mine site is located. Many different types of gold and silver mountings and jewelry already manufactured from our jewelry bench. So stop on by. We'll be happy to see you!

HERITAGE CENTER AND SHOP
Take a stroll through the history and culture of Scotland. Dr. Gordon Teall, Baron of Huntly, and the founder of the Scottish Tartan Society, founded the museum in 1988. This one-of-a-kind museum is the only one in the U.S. located here because there are more people pf Celtic heritage in North Carolina than anywhere else in the nation. Tour starts with a 5000 year old Neolithic village; acquaints you with some of the personages in Scottish history; shows the development of Scottish dress to the present day kilt; Scottish armament; the Scot-Cherokee connection; and exhibits over 600 tartans & more.

Backed by 3rd generation family jewelers with wide range of services at very reasonable rates, including jewelry and watch repair. Fabulous FREE World Class Museum! After years of collecting, buying, trading, and accepting private donations, we have accumulated an amazing private collection. Thousands of gem and mineral specimens including fluorescent (glow-in-the-dark) pieces, fossils dating to millions of years old, petrified wood from all over the world, REAL ivory carvings from the Orient, an expansive Native American collection of pipes, tools, and one of the largest, private pre-Columbian collections in the world. GEM MINE, CAMPING
Only “Dig Your Own” Native Sapphire Mine in Macon County. In operation since 1942, Mason's is one of the original native mines and has a long and colorful history. You can find sapphires, rubies, garnets, rutile, kyanite, sillimanite, mica and quartz in the native mines of the Cowee Valley area. Open 7 days weather permitting. Call for hours. Also, enriched buckets for those who lack the time or ability to do the full mining experience. Handicap accessible. Primitive Camping.
IN THE HISTORIC 1850 JAIL
Located in the Old Jail, we have 8 rooms filled with gems and mineral from all over the world! In fact, we have one of the largest collections in the Southeast! And don't forget about our gift shop! Open Wednesday-Saturday 12-4. Guests are always welcome at our meetings with programs having to do with gems, minerals, rock collecting or jewelry making.

Raising alpacas in the green pastures, under a beautiful blue sky, on a sunny day in beautiful Western North Carolina is really an “affair of the heart”. Operated by Carol and George, whose backgrounds are in teaching and animal husbandry, Skyvue Ranch is a great place to bring the kids (of all ages) to learn about animals that have so much to offer our world. While visiting, check out our gift shop, feed the alpacas, and enjoy our beautiful North Carolina mountains. Call for reservations.

Our purpose is to bring together people interested in history; to discover and collect any object or material that may help establish or illustrate the history of the area; to provide the preservation of historical objects and other materials; and to undertake the preservation of historic building, monuments, and markers.
